Flies

House flies get their common name from being the most common fly found in and around homes and they do pose a significant health risk. These annoying flies have large red-brown compound eyes surrounded by a light gold stripe. House flies feed on animal waste, garbage, and all sorts of moist decaying matter such as spoiled fish, eggs and meat. Flies regurgitate and excrete wherever they come to rest and thereby mechanically transmit disease organisms. Flies are strongly suspected of transmitting at least 65 diseases to humans, including typhoid fever, dysentery, cholera, poliomyelitis, yaws, anthrax, tularemia, leprosy and tuberculosis.

Fleas

Fleas are probably the most common domestic ectoparasite, feeding on any warm-blooded animal. In Canada and has been found on dogs, cats and over a dozen other animals including humans.Adult fleas remain on the host throughout its life but may be knocked off by the animal’s scratching. Typically, flea larva are found in areas where the pet spends the most time. Fleas can transmit pathogens that cause disease, Fleas can transmit murine typhus from rats to humans, and their scratch disease from animals to humans. Additionally, fleas serve as an intermediate host for tapeworms, which can infect your pet and occasionally humans.

Silverfish

Silverfish were given their name because their movement resembles a swimming fish. Three long, slender, antennal-like appendages emerging from the rear of their body which is covered with silvery scales.Humid environments within homes, garages and storage buildings with temperatures between 71 to 90 degrees F. are favored. Silverfish search from   basement to the attic searching for food and will not leave and will not relocate until that source is exhausted. No health threats are associated with this pest.
